The orphanage Konseisanv
Balgram is named after Fr. Conceicao Rodrigues, the founder of the Agnel
Ashram, who with his vision and foresight reserved a piece of land for
it at the time of conceiving the project in Verna, Goa, India.
The proposed orphanage
became a reality when the Ashram Fathers, in collaboration with
benefactors from among the people of Austria, Italy and Germany, were
able to give birth to the project on December 16, 1987. Since this date,
when the foundation stone was laid, the Balgram has grown to 22 cottages
with 10 children in each, consisting of the following unique features:
a.)
Girls and Boys of age four and above are brought up together as
brothers and sisters until they reach the age of adolescence. They are
then shifted into sex specific hostels.
b.)
Children, irrespective of race, caste, creed or community
co-exist in each cottage.
c.)
Loving care of a lady the children call “mother” is under the
supervision of an Administrator as well as a Director, and all three are
available to all the children that live in the Balgram.
d.)
When the children reach the age of majority, they are helped by
us to settle in life and they are always welcomed home when in need.
Director’s Message
During such times in the
world today, it is a rare change to see an institution that thrives on
such love; compassion, prayer and increasingly intensifying need for
knowledge. I am honored to be a part of an institution that prides
itself of all these qualities and reinforces the ongoing declaration of
commitment, courage, self-reliance and self-growth.
The orphans we strive to
give a better life to, teach us of the complexities of youthful
thinking, being and loving. They’ve taught our society that even though
they may not have certain luxuries that other children in the community
possess, that they too are capable of the same achievements.
Our focus at Konseisanv
Balgram is on our children. Whether it is education, coordinating new
programs or strategizing ways to ethically arrive with the appropriate
resources, we believe that these children will prevail and all their
needs come in front and center.
As you navigate this
site, you will find pictures and stories of children and staff, as well
as opportunities to get involved, whether it is a one-time donation, the
sponsorship of a child, volunteering or simply saying a prayer for those
in need.
I invite you to join us
as we work together to end child poverty in this ever-expanding
community, to better the future of these children.
